The Blue Deer Gallery
has been serving Dallas/Fort Worth since 1993, focusing on museum-quality works of authentic American Indian Art. We specialize in traditional works on paper, but have expanded into pottery, jewelry, kachina carvings, basketry and sculpture. We began representing five contemporary American Indian artists - Merlin Little Thunder, Gina Gray, Valjean Hessing, Jane Mauldin, and Doc Tate Nevaquaya. Within six months, we added Sherman Chaddlesone, Joan Hill and Fernando Padilla. From there, we expanded into vintage, traditional Indian painting, which has become our speciality. Over the years, we have carried original paintings by such noted traditional masters as Allan Houser, Crescencio Martinez, Ma Pe Wi, Awa Tsireh, Carl Sweezy, Stephen Mopope, Cecil Dick, Woodrow Crumbo, Pablita Velarde, Oqwa Pi, and Tonita Pena. The Gallery was founded by the late Wilson Hummingbird, and Gallery operations are carried out by Edward Hummingbird and Gary Hummingbird - both respected Indian artists with detailed knowledge of American Indian art and culture. They have exhibited their works, curated exhibitions, and lectured on American Indian art and culture extensively. Edward has frequently served as a judge for major Indian art competitions (from the festival to the museum levels).
Note: The gallery collection has
